Noise and Weight
The Champion 2500W DF generator houses a 79cc, inverter engine that only puts out 53 dBA, making it one of the most quiet engines in this power range. You’re not likely to bother the neighbors (or the wildlife) very much at that rate.
Champion managed to put that engine and all the other components of the generator into a package that weighs just 39 pounds and measures 17.3 by 12 by 17.7 inches. Most people will be able to carry it to its destination using the built-in handle atop the machine.
Gasoline vs Propane
As a dual fuel generator, you can obviously run on gasoline or attach a propane tank and run on that alternative fuel source. When using gasoline, you should be able to run for about 11.5 hours at 1/4 load on a full tank. You’ll get 1850 running watts using gas. Be sure to calculate whether this is enough to power what you want.
When using propane, however, though you will be able to run for about 34 hours on a 20-pound propane tank, you’ll only be working with 1665 watts of power. If you intend to use propane then, recalculate your power needs accordingly.
Outlets and Features
You get two 120V 20A Duplex (5-20R) and one 12V DC outlet, which is standard for a unit of this size. You also get a USB adapter that plugs into the 12V receptacle, so you can charge virtually anything that has a standard USB cable.
You will need to add oil to the reservoir before starting the first time using the recoil cord. (This is not an electric start generator.)
The generator is parallel ready, which mean that, if you purchase (separately) a Champion ParaLink parallel kit, you can connect a second generator to your first, giving you twice the power to run your gadgets. Just remember that that would be 3700 running watt on gas and 3330 running watts on propane.
Champion 2500 Watt Reception and Options
As of this writing, there are nearly 4000 reviews of the Champion generators and over 90% of them are positive. So it looks like current owners are pretty satisfied with their purchases. Bear in mind though that this includes reviews of eight different models ranging from 2000W to 4500W. Still, I think it’s fair to say that the stats for the Champion 2500W DF model are in that same range.
